 February 20, 2011
Without my knowledge, a few months ago, Dr. Lori Smith, the principal at the junior high where I playteach, gave a copy of the book cover of Griffin Rising to one of the art teachers, Ms. Carol Turner. Ms. Turner is not only a gifted educator, but a premier jewelry maker. She worked two months to create this incredible silver and copper pin, breaking mold after mold until she was successful.

Dr. Smith presented it to me the other day in front of one of my classes.

I wept.

And I have not taken it off since.

The Year of the Griffin
My publisher just informed me a few days ago that I should have my Advanced Reader Copies in my hand by mid-January. Can't wait to start promoting my book! I sent the final (and I really mean it this time) revisions to my publisher yesterday. Now it's time to begin gathering reviews for both the ARCs and the book. The promo side of this business never ends.

On the creative side. however, my outline for Book Three is coming along nicely.

Please don't forget to stop by my blog. Leave me a love pellet. Oh. Wait. I mean, a message.

The name of the game right now is tightening up my marketing plan and focusing on pre-release activities. All authors are expected to take a leadership role in the promotion of their books.
Truthfully, it's loads of fun!

I'm working on the next round of edits and my editor has given me some brilliant suggestions. One word sums up my journey right now: endurance. Endurance to re-read the manuscript (for the hundredth time) with fresh eyes, endurance to research promotion ideas, and endurance to keep working on the sequel.

As always, e-mail me or drop me a line in my guest book. I want to hear your thoughts or questions about writing and publishing.

COVER ART HAS ARRIVED!

October 15, 2010
Eight months until June 15, 2011. Wow. I haven't been in love with a specific date since my wedding.
But many factors can delay the publication of a book: more editing, tweaking the cover art, and necessary promo work can all slow down the process. Thus far,Griffin Rising is on schedule, but I'm reminding myself daily to stay flexible, just in case. It's not so important that Griffin takes flight on June 15; just that he soars.
Eventually.

So what does an author do between the signing of a contract and the publication of a book? Edit, edit, edit. Polish, polish, polish. Work with the artist on the cover, Spread the word about my book! Try to get some sleep!
